It would be interesting to know how much time they had left on each move. My Chess knowledge and skill is average at best, and I knew after about 20 seconds of looking at it that taking the pawn was not the right move. I’m assuming Carlson had something like 10-15 seconds left?

I love all the comments everytime the rare event magnus losing a few games happens 😂 Its now so entrenched in everyones mind that hes not even capable of losing at this point that its always a big shock and makes for some great memes hahaha Considering he only plays opponents that are also regarded as the absolute top tier 'super gms' in the world, I feel bad for them cause it has to be such an intimidating thought they have to overcome playing him knowing that everyone always expects that he will win and even more so that history has shown that to be true 😂

Oh, I remember Magnus explaining in a video that he never understood the pawn square rule. He always just kinda calculates the number of turns it takes for a pawn to move. In this instance, capturing the F6 pawn gives black the opportunity to move his passed pawn forward and the white king is no longer in the pawn square in the event that the rook exchange occurs.

This was the first major GM game I spectated on Lichess, chat went nuts when Carlsen went Rxf6. Hell, I'm still very new and focused on watching videos and doing practice drills and even I thought "well, surely he'll start pushing that H pawn right? Oh." I'm not knocking Carlsen; if anything this was a very encouraging game to watch as a new player, as it showed that even the best can make mistakes. I'm eager to keep watching, keep practicing and maybe even start actually playing human beings when I feel like I'm worth the effort of playing. Maybe before the end of the year lol.

It took me forever to realize that at the "find a move" bit I wasn't looking for a win, but a draw. I thought each side had a pawn at the same rank, not that black's pawn was further advanced. Still, though, surprised Carlsen didn't go for the check at all. I guess he wanted to win.
