World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen tops the field for the Airthings Masters, the 2nd stage of the Champions Chess Tour. The 12-player event will be played online on chess24 from December 26th to January 3rd and, as the first Major of the tour, features a $200,000 prize fund with $60,000 for 1st place. The winner also qualifies directly to the Grand Final in September 2021.
The tournament starts with a 3-day preliminary stage where the players play each other once before the top 8 go forward to a knockout. The time control is 15 minutes for all moves, with a 10-second increment from move 1. No draw offers are allowed before move 40. Official website: championschesstour.com

13:40 couldnt he Play Nf3 instead of Qh2 ? Or is 2 Knights against a Queen worse of ?
Jack FisherΠριν 10 ημέρες
3:35 "he captures here with check and wins the queen" but can't black just recapture the knight with bd6? I do not see how this is completely wining for white
Andrei IvanovΠριν 10 ημέρες
11:00 I actually found this move but my rating is about 1000. I think I got lucky since i didnt think about it too much

SHANKAR SALUNKEΠριν 13 ημέρες
At 4:42 even if the knight captures there's a mate Qc8#

I wonder... does anything else in the world contain such profound subtleties?
ronald wobbesΠριν 14 ημέρες
at 6:20 can't you also just capture the bishop on f8, if black recaptures you get a royal fork on d6 and if black doesnt recapture, white's up a bishop, or am I missing something. Would appreciate if somebody could confirm.
Shaked BukaiΠριν 10 ημέρες
I think black just recapture bishop with his king and then its not a fork on d6 and if u take on d6 with knight then white takes your pawn in b2
Sinonimo IngouvilleΠριν 14 ημέρες
Agadmator, thanks man, your great and youve got youre very own style. i wonder... what do you do every time you leans down and say Sorry about that? it happens a lot. and theres nothing to forgive!
Eman JasarevicΠριν 14 ημέρες
@7:04 After bishop to a8, why capturing with the queen, why not knight to b8? If white moves knight from b5 to d6 (check and attack on the queen), then capture with bishop and now he also protects b8 square?!

Why not Black Pawn to c4 in the original position? Qxc4 then e6.
That GuyΠριν 16 ημέρες
Agadmator: To find such a move, you would need to be rated at least 3000. Me: I wonder what sort of engine sorcery is in the works. All I see is Kf1, and even that is purely to sidestep the threats, including guarding e2 since the pawn making it there would be devastating. I bet it's something crazy like Nxg6 which is a bit unclear. Rxh6 is just too much of a threat. Agadmator: The move is Kf1. Me: Oh. I guess seeing why everything else doesn't work or is unclear due to a very clear threat is what it takes to be 3000 rated these days.

#suggestion Milan Matulović vs Istvan Bilek (Sousse Interzonal 1967). The game is famous for an incident on move 38 when Matulović played a losing move but then took it back after saying "j'adoube" and played a different move. This earned him the nickname "Jadoubović". Matulović also had some other interesting controversies during his career. www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1027634
