The Greatest Opening || Morphy vs Kipping || 1860.

This is the story of the birth of modern chess - when the possibilities of chess as an art, a science and a sport all converged.
The point of convergence was a young boy from Louisiana named Paul Morphy. At a time when America was seen as a backwoods nation with little cultural history and even less intellectual impetus, at a time when chess was considered the exclusive property of a few European countries, at a time when the game was played successfully by a handful of men wizened by years, Paul Morphy, in the brief span of 19 months and with seemingly little effort, defeated conclusively every player he met.
While today few non chess players even know his name, he was one of the most famous celebrities of his time and within the hallowed halls of the chess playing community he is considered by some as the greatest chess player of all time.
But this diminutive, unassuming boy rose to fame almost out of nowhere and once he secured his place in history, he retired back into that hazy unknown, shunning the public eye, never again to play serious chess. Not only was he one of great practitioners of the game, but also one of it's greatest enigmas. He's been given the sobriquet, The Pride and Sorrow of Chess.

Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords ask The Holy Spirit to guide you in God's perfect Word as Jesus is The Living Word amen in Jesus Name we pray amen In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. john 1:1-5 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. revelation 19:16 But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 13 I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate, 14 that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing, 15 which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only [a]Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. The Kippings were quite a family. This one was Manchester chess club secretary and didn't do too badly giving Morphy a good game. His son became a very distinguished chemist, Fellow of the Royal Society, researched silicones and is responsible for naming them 'silicones'. His grandson became a famous chess problemist, so famous that chess clubs were named after him, including one I attended briefly, Walsall Kipping. It takes character to offer yourself for ritual slaughter by a rock-star chess genius, in full view of all your peers.

If it is the paying or receiving of acts of respect, you will usually put stress on the first part, as AH-mej. If it is like a memorial, or film reference, you may say the object is an homage, this time with stress on the second part, as oh-MAHzh.

He posts the game's notation in the description, and you can plug that notation into lichess' analysis board.

If anybody wants to read a highly enjoyable but somewhat fictionalized biography of Morphy, check out "The Chess Players" by Frances Parkinson Keyes, written in 1960. Morphy got his start much like Beth Harmon did, learning a lot from the janitor at his school. No doubt that is how Walter Tevis got the inspiration for his 1983 book "The Queen's Gambit" which Netflix took some liberties with in their series.
