World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen tops the field for the Skilling Open, the 1st event on the $1.5 million Champions Chess Tour. The 16-player field will be cut to 8 players in a single round-robin on the first 3 days, before the remaining participants play a 6-day knockout. The prize fund is $100,000, with a $30,000 top prize.
All games are played online on the chess24 Playzone. Each knockout match is played over two days, with two 4-game rapid matches at a time control of 15 minutes for all moves and a 10-second increment from move 1. If the matches end 1:1, two 5+3 games will be played, followed, if necessary, by Armageddon, where White has 5 minutes to Black's 4, but a draw counts as a win for Black. Zdravo, Druže, ne razumem "Sorry about that " deo. Svako dobro!

To put in layman's terms, Ian lost his chance to simplify the game via forced trades, and Magnus slowly but surely pressured Ian enough to push the only pawns defending the Black King, creating terminal weaknesses in the position. If I had to guess, Ian's ambition got the better of him, and once he loosened his position up, it became harder to hold. The move 33 ... f5 definitely burns a trained eye. "The best defense is a good offense." All chess players do this to some extent in their games, but only a handful can do this to a so-called Super GM. Yet another example of why Magnus is considered the World's best.
