World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen tops the field for the Airthings Masters, the 2nd stage of the Champions Chess Tour. The 12-player event will be played online on chess24 from December 26th to January 3rd and, as the first Major of the tour, features a $200,000 prize fund with $60,000 for 1st place. The winner also qualifies directly to the Grand Final in September 2021.
The tournament starts with a 3-day preliminary stage where the players play each other once before the top 8 go forward to a knockout. The time control is 15 minutes for all moves, with a 10-second increment from move 1. No draw offers are allowed before move 40. Official website: championschesstour.com

Hello sir, big fan of ur analysis.. Just wondering one thing.. At 11.20, white pawn to g5 with a check to king and the sacrifice of pawn prob would have been a quicker finish.. If Bg5 , then Rh7 nd mate.. If the king takes the pawn, Qg3- Kh6, Rh7 will be mate, right? 🤔

Carlsen is apparently board with Chess and no longer cares to make much effort to keep at it. He’s not playing the game like he’s driven to win. For him, it’s probably a been there done that sort of thing and from here, I figure Carlsen is just playing his game down until he has no option to participate anymore without starting at a low point, as far as ranking, he hasn’t been at in over a decade, not that he is quite there yet. Then, he’ll just fade into the private life. I figure the only reason he’s continuing to play and stay in the spotlight for now is because of current contractual obligations. I wonder what will be next for him after being in the spotlight in the Chess world for for half of his life.

Mz MzΠριν 22 ημέρες
Because the pawn can only be moved to g4 and if he did that, he would be handing Carlsen the match since Carlsen would immediately take the queen. FYI - Dubov's fourth move was pawn to g3 (47 seconds into the video).

daniel shoihetmanΠριν 23 ημέρες
At 11:20 why Not just pawn to g5? Much quicker checkmate for Dubov
Mz MzΠριν 23 ημέρες
Because the pawn is already at g3. It can only move to g4 and doing so would only hand Carlsen the victory as the bishop would take the queen.

At 11:12, after Rh8+ and black Kg5, why would Dubov play Rxb7? Isn't f4 winning straight away?
Hema LathaΠριν 23 ημέρες
Dubov kina of looks like Bobby Fisher (Robert James Fisher)
Nalin BendapudiΠριν 24 ημέρες
At 11:18, Pawn g5 (with check) is a very good move for white. Black can't take the pawn with bishop as Rook h7 will be checkmate. So black takes pawn with King g5. Now, white plays Pawn f4 (with check). King has nowhere to go but back to h6 where it will get checkmated again by Rook h7. So black takes pawn with Bishop f4. Now, white plays Queen takes on f4, delivering checkmate. Is there anything I missed?
Nándor GáncsΠριν 24 ημέρες
At 11:15 isn't it better to play pawn to f4? Because if the bishop takes the queen, its rook to h7 checkmate, if bishop takes on f4 its queen takes f4 checkmate, and after black defends with pawn to g5, then rook to g6 and its a ladder checkmate. edit: omg the pawn is pinned by the bishop im actually so stewpid
peony_ bee_Πριν 24 ημέρες
around 4:08 you said that you could capture the knight with the bishop or queen but it won't be good with the bishop cuz you can still check the king with the knight and then take the queen with the bishop

Gustave LarrouturouΠριν 24 ημέρες
11:28 isn’t queen takes bishop e3 (yet another queen sacrifice !!!) an even fastest winning move ??? No it isn’t because the e4 pawn is pinned.... :(
Nekys AcherontiosΠριν 24 ημέρες
So at 4:09 when you capture with the bishop the idea is to give Q+2P for three minor pieces?
transparent91Πριν 24 ημέρες
I can't be the only one feeling like Dubov is almost cheating when playing Carlsen? He's been looking over Carlsen's shoulder for so long he basically knows exactly how Carlsen likes to play, and he's just counter-strating him. It seems sort of unfair considering all this time he has leraned from the best while Carlsen became Carlsen on his own even though he briefly learned from Kasparov but undoubtedly not in the same fashion. Dubov plays amazing chess don't get me wrong, but I can't help but think that left on his own, against other GMs, we wouldn't even know his name. I just watch him get kicked out of the Airthings tournament where he lost to players weaker than himself even though he was up on time by a large margin. He might be good against Carlsen, but against unknown opponents, he's really not that spectacular.
Dusan AtanackovicΠριν 24 ημέρες
With time under 10 seconds, wow it's quite impressive. Altough , i must say i am confused with Qxb2 from Magnus, why playing such slow/positional move (while Dubov is low on time) when you can play Bc5 first, forcing d3 Rook to guard the Knight, and with Qe5 in next move, Carlsen would have had a triple attack (with option of playing Ba6 attacking at least one rook in case Dubov doubles them on c3 and d3 after Bc5 (Rd4-d3 .. Bc5; Rc3 .. Qe5; Rd1-d3 .. Ba6) and probbably win the game. Also, with Dubov being low on time, a Bc5 move would be harder to calculate then Qxb2. Yet again, it's easy now to find better moves after the game is finished. Great game for Dubov.
