The game was already pretty much won at this point, but at 8:13 Dubov should have gone Qxg5 instead of Rxg5.. I assume he kept his queen on g6, so that he could grab the pawn on e6. But if he went Qxg5, then black has to move Qd4. Then white goes Qxe7, black now can't protect both the rook and the pawn on e6, which is coming with check and an attack on the white bishop.

#suggestion Robert Hess vs Andrew Tang from 2020 US Chess Qualifier. Really a wild game, Hess giving up an exchange to attack Tang's king, who was somewhat weak. Worth checking out in my opinion, although ends in a draw.

A better translation of Nepomniachtchi's surname, which is an adverbial participle, would be something like "the one who doesn't (or cannot) remember (something or other...)" - a rough english equivalent would be Ian Forgets, if such a surname existed. On a side note, there was once a famous french tennis player who later became their Davis Cup captain - Guy Forget...

Hey guys! Chess noob here, only 1200 rated. Quick question: at 8:20 in the video (idk how to get the number to link you there) after Qxe6, Kf8, Re1, can’t Nepo sufficiently defend with Qf6? Seems to defend everything?
Safe TexΠριν 29 ημέρες
I think white would then play Rook to F5, pinning the Black queen which can't move as that would be check, so it would be a lost queen for a rook
Disappointed FatherΠριν 29 ημέρες
So here agadmator opens with "Hello everyone" - truly a devastating move, and it was in this position that black resigned the game

Random KindnessΠριν 29 ημέρες
that explanation at 2:40 for sacrificing your rook to protect your b5 pawn... it seems to me that he blundered
Safe TexΠριν 29 ημέρες
My guess is that Ian had a plan to trap the white rook on F1 but it did not work due to white's next moves. The plan being to get his black bishop to C3 and then at some point advance the pawn on B5. Otherwise, I agree that to us mere mortals, it does look like a blunder
